Iglesia Vida Plena

OUR VISION

Families flourishing and influencing for Christ

OUR CENTRAL FOCUS

Provide a space where families can experience the love of Christ, a sense of belonging, and value is added to their lives.

Our story

Iglesia Vida Plena (IVP was legally planted as an independent church in the Summer of 1014 by a small group of people: primarily the family of the founding pastors Julián & Marina (Lily) Guzmán. Also members such as the associate pastors Edwyn & Aridia Guzmán, Ramón & Ynés Guzmán, Adalgisa Pena, Ignacio & Anisabel Núñez.

The first public worship service was held on August 21 starting at 1pm, at 3450 Michael Ave SW in Wyoming, Michigan. Same building that houses Sunset Park Church of God since 1962. We started out renting the space and it was not long until we officially joined the Church of God based in Anderson, Indiana in November 2016.

Two years later on June 2018, both congregations signed into a legal agreement in which Iglesia Vida Plena, upon maturation in June 2028, will become co-owners with Sunset Park. Pastor Paul Meyer has been very instrumental in the formation process of the church. IVP is forever grateful to God and to our brother Paul and his congregation for such as godly hospitality.

Through the painful challenges of Covid-19 season, our Lord and Savior showed up in a powerful way to support IVP in a continued service of Hispanic Families He as entrusted us during this time. Our congregation adapted quickly and the mission continued uninterrupted.

On her tenth anniversary, a renewed, healthy, and flourishing IVP celebrates the birth of the first daughter church Nuevo Pacto, located in the Northeast side of Grand Rapids, Glory to God!

Our Statement of Faith

We, as a community of faith, affirm our belief in the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Savior, who lived, died, and rose again to redeem us from sin and offer eternal life. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we strive to embody love, grace, and compassion in our daily lives, sharing the Good News with all. Together, we commit to growing in faith, serving our neighbors, and fostering a spirit of unity in Christ. Amen.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Nature and Revealing Activity of God

We believe that there is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4) in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is Holy and He is the source and Creator of all there is. He has set the standards and everything is under His dominion.

The Nature and Saving Mission of Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s one and only son. He is man and God. He (John 1).

Jesus came, not to condemn the world, but to save the world (John 3:16-18).

The Nature and Authority of the Bible

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit to human writers and is the authority over our lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The Holy Spirit’s Cleansing and Gifting Work in the Believer’s Life

We believe that following salvation through faith in Jesus Christ we then have access to the Holy Spirit of God who comes to dwell in us. Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross, the first work of grace (Galatians 3:13).

The Holy Spirit infilling gives us the ability to live a life pleasing to God, the second work of grace (Galatians 3:14).

The Ordinances of Baptism, Lord’s Supper and Feet-washing

We believe that the ordinances of Baptism, partaking of the Lord's Supper, and the practice of Feet-washing. Where we have all been instructed and lived out by our Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe these ordinances invite believers to be held accountable, remember Jesus' sacrificial love for us, and set an example of servant leadership.

Human Nature, Sinfulness, and Destiny

We believe God created man in His image (Genesis 1:27).

Man is this sense refers to both male and female. The term "in his image" means our spirit is in His likeness because God is Spirit. God set us apart from animals. The account of creation specifically focuses on the creation of man. Also, like God, man has morality and free will. Man is able to determine right from wrong and make decisions beyond that of instinct or self-preservation (Deut. 30:19).

The fallen nature of man is that of corruption and deception. We have been separated from God due to the Fall (disobedience) of Adam and Eve. We believe there is a literal heaven and a hell. Revelation describes the New Heaven and New Earth as a place where God dwells among His people and the lake of fire as the final destination for sinners who did not receive salvation (Rev. 21:4, 8).

Salvation

We believe that the term salvation poses a question, "What am I being saved from?" I believe we are being saved from separation from God's presence, both in this life and in life after death (Romans 6:23).My understanding of the word death is as a total and eternal separation from God in a literal Hell. Everyone is in danger of suffering this death (Romans 3:23).

It is for this very reason that Jesus, the Son of God, came to save us. I believe God sent His son Jesus to die a sinner's death in our place to pay the price we are unable to pay, restoring us into a relationship with Him (John 3:16). There is no substitution available; Jesus is the only source of salvation (John 16:6).

We believe any and all who hear the message of Jesus Christ can repent from their sins, confess Jesus as Lord and Savior, and be saved from a sinner's death (Romans 10:9-10).

I believe once someone has accepted Christ as their savior, there is nothing spiritual or physical that can cause this person to lose their salvation (Romans 8:38-39), except their own free will (Deuteronomy 30:19; Mark 13:13).

Holiness

We believe the term holiness refers to both the nature of God as well as the second act of grace by God, also called entire sanctification. We also know that God is Holy because scripture says that He is holy (1 Peter 1:16). We believe God is the only true source of holiness in our lives (John 15:5); without which “no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).

The Nature of the Church and Church Membership

We believe that Church is the body of Christ and made up of 'the saved'. Those who are saved join God in His mission to seek the salvation of others being the only requirement of membership is evidenced in the New Testament church. People were added daily to the church through messages of repentance and salvation. Believers fellowshipped together, studied together, and continued to reach the gospel of Jesus Christ, and "The Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:42-47)

Life, Marriage, Family, and Sexual Purity

We believe that we are to live as imitators of God, loving others as ourselves (Mathew 22:37-38).

We believe we are to love both believers and non-believers of Jesus in His name (Matthew 5:44). In this way, we are attempting to woo the bride of Christ to Him. We believe in a Godly marriage is between one man and one woman until death. Anything outside of this design is sin (Genesis 2:24).

We believe it is important that marriage should be between a man and a woman who are not closely related (Leviticus 18:6).

We believe sex was designed to be enjoyed between a husband and wife, not just for procreation, but as a form of pleasure and protection (Proverbs 5:18-19). Any sex outside of a Godly marriage is sin (1 Cor. 6:18).

God's design for a marriage calls for a husband to lead his family in their spiritual growth. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved His church, willing to die for her. As he is willing to love her in this way, she is to be willing to submit to him (Ephesians 5:22-28). This is not to be a "hard-handed" abusive ruling, but one done of mutual love and trust. Children are to be raised by their mother and father in the instruction of the Lord, in this way they can lean to love the Lord their God as they grow.

The Status of Women in Ministry and Leadership

We believe God created women as ‘helpers suitable to man’ (Gen. 2:18).

Women are formed in the image of God (Gen. 1:27; 2:20-22)

We believe women are equal to men. They are not the same as men, but equal, nevertheless. We believe women can and should serve in leadership roles. Scripture further shows women in positions of power both spiritually and politically. Miriam, Moses’ sister, was a prophetess, Deborah was a prophetess and a judge, in the book of Judges, and Esther became Queen and lead the Jewish people in prayer and fasting to save the Jews. Jesus, the Son of God, was born of a woman, Mary and there was a Temple prophetess named Anna.

The Nature and Importance of Christian Unity

We believe believers are called to Unity (John 13:34-35: 17:21-23).

Love for one another is what will help the world identify who follows Christ. Those who love one another have the ability to live in unity, even if we fail to always agree with one another. The disciples that Jesus rounded up were far from being completely compatible. Jesus rounded up fisherman, a tax collector, a Zealot, and a thief. They didn’t always get along with one another, as we see in Scripture, they had quarrels among each other (Luke 9:46).

Christian Stewardship of Life and Financial Resources

We believe God created all things and all things belong to Him first and foremost. I believe the term “all things” is an all-inclusive term that includes money, physical resources, talents, spiritual gifts and our time. When God blessed Adam and Eve and gave them command over all things created. God was granting them stewardship of all these things. Stewardship is the act of careful and responsible managing of something entrusted to one’s care. Jesus illustrates the proper stewardship of resources in the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25. According to this parable, we are granted that stewardship.
